The Northern Lighthouse Board installed three diesel engines at the lighthouse in 1955, these replaced the previous paraffin fuelled engines and were used to provide compressed air for the foghorn. Two, including the engine seen here, have been restored to working order by volunteers and are operated occasionally - but sadly not to work the foghorn!
