The church of St Wandregesilius - remains of the war memorial
It was located on the nave north wall. The church >
Link was destroyed by a fire in May 2004. On the floor below it the charred parish chest can be seen. In the foreground (at left) are the remains of the baptismal font.
According to the IWM's war memorial register, the Bixley war memorial (WW1 - Lost) was "a large nowy-headed wooden board with the inscriptions engraved. Below the writing, an oak leaf has been imprinted with gold paint". The names were not recorded. Bixley forms a parish with the neighbouring village of Arminghall. With the old memorial destroyed in the 2004 fire, the parish is to date still without a war memorial - this despite the fact that seven parishioners (five in WW1 and two in WW2) are documented to have been killed in action.
