The view from the Circular Road. “Clonavar” (different spelling) was the residence of James Girdwood, a Victorian businessman in the textile and furnishing trade. At the time Sydenham and the surrounding area was, possibly, the most fashionable part of Belfast and contained many “big houses” in extensive grounds. A few remain in non-residential use but most have long-since been sold for redevelopment.
Development site, Clonaver Drive, Belfast
A site, at the corner of the Circular Road and Clonaver Drive, currently (November 2017) occupied by three blocks of flats.
Now offered for sale and described by the agents as “Situated just off prestigious Circular Road in East Belfast, this is a superb residential development opportunity in an area of high demand. Just over an acre in size, the site benefits in planning terms from having three apartment buildings already on the site (which now require demolition). Close to excellent local schools and amenities on the Holywood Road, in Belmont and Ballyhackamore, Belfast City Centre is also easily accessible via road or rail. Considering the buoyant market in East Belfast, we expect this sale to attract a lot of interest. Early inspection and investigation is therefore strongly recommended.”
The photographs submitted by me appear as a matter of record only. I have no connection with the property or sale and cannot enter into correspondence.
My search of the NI planning portal does not show any current planning permission for the site.
