The "Polarlight" at Bangor
The "Polarlight" at Bangor
See J5082 : Two ships at Bangor. There was also a competing service to the Isle of Man operated by Glenlight Shipping. Glenlight was the successor to the various operators of Clyde puffers. Even in 1986 it still owned several small (diesel) ships which could trade to the smaller harbours and quays in the west of Scotland. They usually used their own deck cranes to load or discharge their cargoes. This is the “Polarlight” at the Central Pier, Bangor.
Ships, Bangor (Co Down) harbour

A small collection of photographs showing some of the ships which visited Bangor harbour to load or discharge cargoes. Now closed to commercial shipping, it still handles fishing boats, mussel dredgers, pleasure craft, fishery protection and research vessels and, from time to time, boats engaged in civil engineering work.
