Donegall Square South (part), Belfast (1981)
In 1981 Donegall Square South was a shadow of its former self. Nos 1-3 (out of picture to the left) had been replaced by a 70’s structure clad in concrete panels (now demolished and replaced by a more pleasing building). No 4 (dating from 1808) had been demolished (unofficially as I recall). The General Accident (no 5), same date but altered, was still standing (now demolished and replaced). Next to it is the old “International Hotel” then being used as council offices – also demolished and replaced. For today’s view (in the opposite direction) see J3373 : Donegall Square South, Belfast. J3373 : No 5 Donegall Square South, Belfast shows the replacement building. See also J3374 : No 9 Wellington Place, Belfast (part).
