NY5706 : High on Birkbeck Fells Common
taken 3 years ago, near to Bretherdale Head, Cumbria, England
High on Birkbeck Fells Common
The bridleway which started out from Ewelock Bank as a metalled road has gradually grown fainter, so that the single good track of a kilometre below has now becmome a braid of faint and somewhat boggy tracks only 30m below the summit of Crag Hill (which is not its destination as shown on the map, but seems to be where most walkers using it today are headed). The views are very extensive, taking in Nine Standards Rigg, Mallerstang Edge and the whole of the Howgill Fells beyond the upper valley of the River Lune in this photo. Just catching the sun in the centre is
NY5706 : Ruined building on Nan Hill which we have passed close to on the way up.
