Wentworth Castle
Wentworth Castle is a grade I listed country house at Stainborough, South Yorkshire. Building commenced in 1711, to a design by Johann von Bodt, on the site of the earlier Cutler House. The south front was completed in 1764; by this time William Wentworth was in charge of the design, assisted by John Platt and Charles Ross. The house is set in an extensive landscaped estate (grade I listed) which includes a large folly, Stainborough Castle (built 1726-30). A grade II* listed Victorian conservatory is built on the northern side of the house.
Wentworth Castle is now owned by Barnsley Metropolitan Council and houses the Northern College for Residential and Community Education.
