The Jaffe fountain, Belfast (detail)
See J3474 : Victoria Square, Belfast (3). The prominent yellow object in the previous photo is the Jaffe fountain. It originally stood in the Square before being moved to the Botanic Gardens. Now restored and returned. It was made by George Smith & Co at the Sun Foundry, Glasgow in 1874. The Jaffe family had many business and philanthropic interests in Belfast. One member, Otto, was twice elected Lord Mayor. (Going by the number of photographs being taken it could soon rival J3474 : The "Big Fish", Donegall Quay, Belfast (2) as the tourists’ and Geographers’ favourite). Continue to J3474 : The Jaffe fountain, Belfast (2).
