Salt barn, Belfast
Salt barn, Belfast
This domed salt barn, at Airport Road West, was built in 1999 for the Roads Service. It can hold 6,000 tonnes of rock salt for use in de-icing during the winter. Apparently brine preserves wood but corrodes other building materials.
