Bridge of Athlone
Bridge of Athlone
The River Shannon is already a major river as it flows through Athlone. The bridge crosses the river from Connacht province on the left to Leinster on the right so historically was an important defensive point, although these days County Westmeath has pinched an extra few miles of the west bank to keep Athlone wholly within one county.
The Bridge of Athlone is the name of a ceilidh jig.
