Proleek Dolmen
This is one of the most impressive portal tombs to be found anywhere, dating back to approximately 3000BC. The massive capstone measures 3.8 x 3.2 metres and is variously estimated to weigh between 30 and 46 tons. It rests on two upright stones 2.3 metres high, and a third modern confection of stone and concrete to keep in balanced! The clutter of smaller stones on top bears witness to local folklore, that if you throw a stone up and it stays there, you will be married within the year!
