Geograph ideas ::

Contributor Recognition

proposed by Bob Harvey

Following on from This whimsical account I would like to propose that we come up with some sort of additional recognition system.

* Perhaps a "special Award" point for photographs with a story to tell, or a story behind them. Whoever awards it would add a brief (80 character?) justification that would be added to the photo page. There could, perhaps, be a limit of (say) 50 such points available per month

* Perhaps the monthly winners of POTY and YOMP should be flagged as such on the photo page, and as a new Showcase. Ditto the POTD images.

* Perhaps a "Trustee's award" at each AGM for a contributor of merit (not necessarily just by count), whose photo pages would all include a rosette of some sort

* the number of "thumb" events could be interesting on a photo page too; A download count as well as the "viewed" count might be interesting, and form a new leaderboad or another showcase. ditto a "spotted on twitter" count if the Hamsters could be set on watch

Why people think this would be a good idea... · Support bullet points 2 and 4. They may help to improve quality of submissions and would bestow a sense of achievement, always pleasant. Don't understand the 'pledge' bit, it seems inappropriate. Are you asking for money where my mouth is? by Robin Webster
