The route runs along the east side of Arran from the ferry at Lochranza to Brodick. Then by ferry to Ardrossan and on to Kilmarnock on the Cunninghame cycleway. Curiously there is a disconnected Southern section between Stranraer and Newton Stewart connecting with NCN7.
