New Year's Day 2012

Some people take active part and add their photos to the forum thread, as well as attaching the shared description to their image. Many others take the photo and submit it to the site, but don't post to the forum. Others go out for lengthy walks with their cameras and take lots of photos.
There was no shared description for the collection in 2012 but I have brought together one image from each contributor who did submit an image taken on New Year's Day - a total of 96 photographers. I've arranged the images in more or less (grid) north to south order and added a brief description where there was none.
Apart from some places in Scotland, New Year 2012 was short on sunshine and shadows, long on damp Morris dancers and muddy puddles.

A lovely sunny New Year's Day in Spynie wood, Moray. The low winter sun cast long shadows and also made a very pleasing day for myself and the wildlife that I was suited to see. Then off for new year dinner, what a perfect day.

Modern houses in Woodside Place at noon on 1 January. Having been foiled in my attempt to get a Christmas 2011 geograph exactly at noon, I decided to remedy the omission on the first day of 2012.

Looking NNW to the coast at Lossiemouth, with the Lighthouse visible slightly to the left of centre. This view will be spoilt by the proposed Brown Muir Wind Farm. I did actually take the photo on New Years Day 2012, when I walked to Findlay's Seat with my wife and sister-in-law.

It was pouring with rain, and quite a few folk were up here looking for a low level alternative to stormbound hills. Heading back to Invergarry along a road which seems to be halfway through a rebuilding exercise.

The priory is on the largest of three islands in the only lake in Scotland - The Lake of Menteith. There are boat trips out to the island and priory operated by Historic Scotland who also care for the mainly ruined priory.

This was viewed on New Year’s Day 2012. The small island in the background to the right is Lamb. A soft toy with tartan hat and trousers has been left on the rocks.

When this picture was taken, the new club house and green shown here appeared to be almost complete (construction began in the latter half of 2011), but the club had not yet relocated from its previous site (NS40407561, beside Dumbarton Academy on NS4075 : Crosslet Road).
