The collection of photos taken on New Year's Day, one from each contributor, has been run in the Themed Topic Forum for a number of years.
Some people take active part and add their photos to the forum thread, as well as attaching the shared description to their image. Many others take the photo and submit it to the site, but don't post to the forum. Others go out for lengthy walks with their cameras and take lots of photos.
I thought I'd bring all these groups together - a total of 69 photographers. I've arranged the images in more or less (map) north to south order and added a brief description where there was none.

NH6454 : Storm damage, Tullich Wood by Julian Paren
We are in the process of clear felling our section of Tullich Wood to conform to a forestry licence that expires in April 2017. Strong winds did much of the work for us - we had been told that if we did not fell the Norway Spruce they would fall over.

NH5250 : Muir of Ord junction by Craig Wallace
A four-way road junction in Muir of Ord. The A862 (Great North Road) joins with the A832 (Black Isle Road), before crossing the bridge over the railway. It is also joined by Seaforth Road.

Work is going on to replace the bridge over the railway, so there are traffic cones and fences across the current bridge, and an extended section of traffic lights.

The building on the right was the Royal Bank of Scotland, it closed a couple of years ago, the sign says "Coming to the market soon". To the left is The Co-operative Food grocery store.

NS3482 : Cleared woodland on the slopes of Gouk Hill by Lairich Rig
Until recently, this view would have been obstructed by trees. The hill from which the picture was taken is shown, with trees, in the central part of the background of NS3482 : Cleared forestry land near Gouk Hill, and, without trees, in the right background of NS3482 : Forestry track near Goukhill Muir.

Slightly left of centre in the present picture are the hills that surround, like a horseshoe, the head of Glen Finlas (c.NS3190). The more distant Ben Lomond (NN3602) is right of centre, with a tall standing trunk in front of it.

NS5573 : Waitrose Supermarket, Milngavie by Richard Sutcliffe

NT2470 : Ivy in the ascendant by M J Richardson
Midday picture, New Year's Day 2017. Another exciting milestone image! An indication of climate change - in tropical regions lianas are becoming more prevalent and intrusive in forests; in temperate regions Ivy seems to be much more noticeable higher up in trees, although I do not know of any work to support that observation. If I am spared it will be interesting to see how the Ivy in these two trees develops over the next few years. Two earlier pictures show the Ivy nowhere near as high as this in 2010 NT2470 : Morningside skyline, or 2013 NT2470 : Snow on sycamore branches and roofs.
