This building is actually Category B Listed, but forms an A Listed group with the south and west blocks of Chessel's Court (not shown here).

The north block of Chessel's Court is a Category B listed tenement building LinkExternal link . It is a 1963-4 rebuild of an 18th Century tenement which stood here. It is part of an A Listed group of buildings which includes the Chessel's Court south and west buildings.

The gardens' 1967 glasshouses. Their design was hailed as the most innovative since Paxton's Great Conservatory at Chatsworth, built in the 1830s. The main house is 128 m long with the supporting structure on the outside, so the internal area can be used to full effect. It covers two levels, with five climatic zones. Along with the other glasshouses, 10 glasshouses are open to the public.

Sir William Burrell (former ship-owner) set stringent conditions in his will on the siting and display of his magnificent collection of art works - the fruits of a lifetime of assiduous collecting. Only after many years in mothballs did they finally see the light of day in this purpose-built gallery. The priceless medieval tapestries used to lie piled on the floor in Sir William's home where he would show them to privileged guests like a carpet salesman demonstrating his wares.

The venue includes a cinema as well as a theatre. Unusually for a modern building it is category A listed (LB49959), as "a nationally significant theatre complex, one of the first high status modernist buildings in the Highlands and the first completely new theatre complex to have been built in Scotland within approximately 50 years". Built in 1973-1976 by architect Graham Law and redeveloped in 2007.
