Blue plaques and such-like "X lived here" memorials

As a companion to the "Geographs in Literature" gallery, how about a gallery of houses and other locations associated with famous people and commemorated by the well-known Blue Plaque or by similar plaques or inscriptions? The massed ranks of plaques below will give the flavour. For example, for Charles Dickens:      or for John Keats:  or for Thomas Hardy:  or the Brontes:  And now a totally mixed bag:                                         (Ulster seems to be well represented)                                            - a special one        - bending the rules                        - out of the ordinary             03/06/08: I have searched the whole site for images including "plaque" in title or description (26 text-only pages) but I have included only those where the focus is on a person/persons, not the building. I will leave the gallery open for late arrivals and any I may have missed - but please respect the proposed limits of the gallery. |

TQ2279 : Sri Aurobindo's blue plaque. There is currently an exhibition in Wellington Arch in London run by English Heritage about blue plaques and how they originated. I'll try and get them posted on here. |
