GLOUCESTERSHIRE Winchcombe Pottery This is a very sick looking kiln and when seen close up you wonder how long it can survive. |

The Potteries Heritage Society has updated the list on its webpage and added in some square/rectangular calcining kilns that were not included in the original list. These are as follows: - Middleport Mills, Millvale Street, Middleport. One rectangular calcining kiln. Oliver's Mill, Burslem. Has calcining kilns of both rectangular (2 chambers) and bottle form (1 chamber). Jesse Shirley's Etruscan Bone and Stone Mill, Etruria. Now the Etruria Industrial Museum. Has one rectangular calcining kiln with two chambers. The site also lists a further muffle kiln at Falcon Pottery, Hanley but this has collapsed (as has the hovel of the bottle oven) and I have not seen a photograph of it. The photograph below shows the remains of the collapsed bottle oven. The outer of the bottle Kiln has collapsed (Feb 2012 Link ). The whole place is looking rough to be honest. Pot bank. 1906, with use of site established by 1891. Brick with plain tiled roofs. Extensive workshop ranges loosely grouped around yard. Entrance range of three storeys and 23 bays, with entrance arch to yard towards left of elevation, with cast-iron lintel and mosaic lettering: "Falcon Pottery". Blue and red brick cambered heads to windows, and blue brick bands.
