Islands of the Forth

It's a sure thing. One day your teacher will ask you to name all the islands in the Firth of Forth. Well here's a little rhyme which could help you remember their names and approximately where they are. This MAP or other MAP shows a totally illogical route around the Forth Estuary (just blame the rhyme) starting from the Forth Rail Bridge and navigating roughly in an anticlockwise direction taking in all the major islands before arriving back almost at your starting point. Inchgarvie, Inchmickery, Inchcolm, Inchkeith Cramond, Fidra, Lamb, Craigleith Around the Bass Rock to the Isle of May Then past Car Craig to Dalgety Bay. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inchgarvie -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inchmickery -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inchcolm -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inchkeith -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cramond -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fidra -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Lamb -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Craigleith -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Around the Bass Rock -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() to the Isle of May -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and past Car Craig -- ![]() ![]() to Inverkeithing Bay / Dalgety Bay -- -- There are one or two which are only little islands but they're worth a mention. Some people might not class all, or indeed any, of these as islands, just rocks. No matter, if you're sailing a boat you'll want to know where they are.... ![]() ![]() ![]() Oxcars -- ![]() ![]() Cow and Calves -- ![]() Birnie Rocks -- ![]() ![]() ![]() Hummel Ridges -- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() St Baldred's Boat -- ![]() ![]() The Leithies -- ![]() ![]() Eyebroughy -- ![]() ![]() Thank Rock -- ![]() Long Craig -- ![]() ![]() Haystack -- ![]() Craigdimas -- ![]() Meadulse -- and in this square NT1982 you'll find:Swallow Craig. -- ![]() Rosyth Castle used to stand as a small island in the Firth of Forth. The surrounding land was reclaimed and became part of the Royal Dockyard by the early 20th century. It may once have looked similar to this: ![]() (Note: p7 Aberdour Primary School.
