Just over 50 species of terrestrial mammals can be found in Britain and Ireland, with many more species of Cetaceans (whales and dolphins) occurring offshore.

 American Mink (Mustela vison)
 Eurasian Badger (Meles meles)
 European Otter (Lutra lutra)
 Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus)
 Common Seal (Phoca vitulina)
 Mountain Hare (Lepus timidus)
 Brown Hare (Lepus europaeus)
 European Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
 Feral Goat (Capra aegagrus)
 Red Deer (Cervus elaphus)
 Sika Deer (Cervus nippon)
 Fallow Deer (Dama dama)
 Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus)

Of the terrestrial mammals the most surprising omission is Weasel (Mustela nivalis). Others include Pygmy Shrew (Sorex minutes), Water Shrew (Neomys fodiens), Pine Marten (Martes martes), European Polecat (Mustela putorius), Wild Cat (Felis sylvestris), Chinese Muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi), Chinese Water Deer (Hydropotes inermis), Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius), Edible Dormouse (Glis glis), Harvest Mouse (Micromys minutes), Yellow-necked Mouse (Apodemus flavicollis), House Mouse (Mus domesticus), Black Rat (Rattus rattus), Bank Vole (Myodes glareolus), Common Vole (Microtus arvalis). Many of these are rare or very hard to observe. In addition, there are also many species of bats (but note that it is illegal to handle bats or disturb them at their roosts), cetaceans and also a few species of vagrant seals. For completeness sake, there are photos of the following reptiles:  Adder (Vipera berus)
 Grass Snake (Natrix natrix)
 Slow Worm (Anguis fragilis)
 Common Lizard (Zootoca vivipara)
Leaving Smooth Snake (Coronella austriaca) and Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) as the only native species not represented. While there are photos of the following amphibians:  Smooth Newt (Triturus vulgaris)
 Common Toad (Bufo bufo)
 Common Frog (Rana temporaria)
Leaving Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus), Palmate Newt (Triturus helveticus) and Natterjack Toad (Bufo calamita) as the only unquestionably native species not represented. |

These two from our semi-urban garden. Can anyone help on the type of mouse? I thought it was a house mouse but I could be wrong.  |

A quick search shows the following additions: There is a Weasel (Mustela nivalis) hiding out there, albeit a rather small one  While this is the backside of a Pine Marten (Martes martes)  And here is a Chinese Muntjac (Muntjacia reevesi)  and a Chinese Water Deer (Hydropotes inermis)  Some distant Harbour Porpoises (Phocaena phocaena)  While here is another new amphibian, Natterjack Toad (Bufo calamita)  |
