London Marylebone to Wrexham A new service has commenced between London Marylebone and Wrexham by the Wrexham & Shropshire Railway. This is the first through service between Wrexham and London in 41 years. This type of service is referred to as 'open access' as it is not a franchised route devised by the Office of Rail Regulation. It is therefore an entrepreneurial operation where the the operator has identified a 'market opportunity' so it will stand or fall on the success of the service, although the company does have some financial 'clout' as it is half owned by German State Railways. Previously stored rolling stock is currently being refurbished and painted for the service and should be ready by mid-2008. In the interim, coaches have been hired in to operate the trains. |
