In addition to the reciprocating steam engine, there were waterworks that used steam turbine pumping sets, either alongside reciprocating steam engines or on their own. The biggest and best were at Hampton Waterworks but the turbines were all scrapped by the mid-1980s . One rotor is preserved by the London Museum of water & Steam at Kew and is to go on public display To the best of my knowledge, the only surviving in situ sets are at Kempton Park Pumping Station where the two turbines are of the same capacity as the huge reciprocating engines but are lost alongside them. . |
