Geo-Trips :: Porth Einon Bay and the Salt House
Porth Einon bay
A walk from Porth Einon, Thu, 11 Nov 2021 by Rudi Winter
A short walk on the beach in relatively low light conditions. Starting from the beach car park, we first turned southwest along the rocky coast section towards the Youth Hostel in the former lifeboat station and then to the remnants of a mediaeval salt house, where sea salt was evaporated on coal fires. After some exploration of the rocky coast, we returned to the car park only to overshoot onto the sandy part of the beach, with the largely exposed Porth Einon bay stretching out before us. We followed the water's edge to Horton, where a small stream forms interesting patterns as it reaches the sandy beach. Finally, a short walk along the access tracks to the various camp sites takes us back to the car.
