Attributed to this square was an old post-mill on Bledlow Ridge
http://library.kent.ac.uk/library/special/html/mills/ber-buc.htmIn 1930 (SPB Mais, 'It isn't far from London') described it as 'a ramshackle, broken-down windmill in a field, with its works open like the works of a watch'. A photo fp.26 loc cit confirms the description.
An earlier photo of it in a less decrepit state is at
http://viewfinder.english-heritage.org.uk/search/detail.aspx?uid=16694 That reference also states: From maps we know that this mill was in existence by 1797, and was probably moved to the site from elsewhere at about this date. Milling here ceased in 1914 and the building was subsequently used as a water tower. It was demolished in 1933.
Can anyone please put a more precise OS reference to the site where the mill stood?
