taken 20 years ago, near to Calshot, Hampshire, England

Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)
Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)
Localised species that favours industrial or derelict areas. They often winter in this area. As they are rare and protected (schedule one) and breed on building sites they can hold up building works (such as the Millennium Dome) as disturbing them intentionally or recklessly is an offence. Thoughtful design of construction can also benefit this species.
