The Plaza (ballroom), Belfast
I haven’t been able to discover when the Plaza (corner of Chichester Street and Montgomery Street) opened but it closed in 1970 – a victim of the bombing campaign (and, I’d guess, the trend towards discos). During WWII it was taken over by the US Red Cross for R&R. Glen Miller played there. In later years it became a haunt of Teddy Boys (shock horror!). Damaged by fire in 1975 – it was being prepared for demolition when the photo was taken. J3474 : The Plaza (offices), Belfast shows the replacement building.
