Steam firepump, Tonedale Mills
Steam firepump, Tonedale Mills
Horizontal duplex firepump by George mills of Radcliffe, c1910. Was then workable but is now disused and up for grabs. This is a large firepump that befits a large textile mill complex. Fire was an ever present concern to owners and insurance companies and one popular brand of pump was known as the 'underwriter'. Sprinkler pumps could be made self starting in the event of a loss of pressure due to a sprinkler head being breached.
