The last time that I passed through here, H0037 : Rainbow "Ballroom of Romance", Glenfarne I didn't know about the history of this building, and in a sense, it was similar to the time that the writer William Trevor was passing through and noticed the building and was inspired to write a book and subsequently it was made into a film produced by the BBC. In most postings about this writer, he is described as being English, but I was informed by someone who knew him personally that he came from Mitchelstown in Ireland and settled in England. The Glenfarne Development trust has kept the building going and they have recently received a substantial grant for repairs and improvements. It was built in 1934, and was known then as McGivern’s Dance Hall - see old admission ticket here H0037 : Memorabilia, Ballroom of Romance, Glenfarne.
