NS5162 : Bull Wood

taken 15 years ago, near to Waterside, East Renfrewshire, Scotland

Bull Wood
Bull Wood
A very old wood, shown on the Timothy Pont and Blaeu maps. Formed part of policies of old Hawkhead Estate and once well-maintained. Now in a poor state - many of the trees, particularly in this corner, are dead or dying, there is no regeneration, and the ground is much boggier than it was 40 years ago. How do you rescue a wood?
