SK3588 : Charles Ross steam hammer

taken 17 years ago, near to Sheffield, England

Charles Ross steam hammer
Charles Ross steam hammer
Preserved at Sheffield Industrial Museum alongside the Bessemer converter. It is plumbed to a steam supply but I've never seen it move. There are still a few of these at work on compressed air.
