The 'Stena Caledonia' off Bangor
The 'Stena Caledonia' off Bangor
Built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast and launched in 1981, the 'Stena Caledonia' is a vehicle and passenger ferry that normally operates on the Belfast-Stranraer route.
Probably as a result of the current economic downturn, ferry operators Stena Line appear to have recently begun to look for novel ways to generate income using the ferry and have introduced two new pleasure cruises as round trips from Belfast. One of these is a 'Kids' Fun Day Cruise on Belfast Lough' where "there will be face painting, balloon modelling, a disco and a film in the onboard cinema as well as activity packs to keep them entertained"; the other is a 'Lazy Sunday Cruise' on Belfast Lough that actually appears to travel far up along the County Antrim coastline.
Taken on a Saturday, this appears to be the Kids' Cruise and is notable in that the ferry is travelling much closer to the coastline at Bangor than on her normal service to and from Scotland. See LinkExternal link for a variety of related images.
