Crannog and wood-turning, Irish National Heritage Park
This is a reconstruction of a Crannog, a settlement on an artificial island in a lake or estuary. The photo includes a reconstruction of a wood-turning lathe turned by a pedal and a cord around the wooden rod. There may have been similar sites in Ireland back to 4500 B.C. but most are early medieval. For an extant example see G8233 : Crannog on Carrigeencor Lough.
