Pond near River Ray
The still surface of this pond provides a mirror image of the pollarded trees on the far bank. Despite the pond being very close to a small stream behind the camera, the River Ray,
SP6921 : Bridge over River Ray, it does not seem to be natural feature, though it must have existed for quite a long time. Often such ponds, were dug out by a farmer to fill naturally with water runoff, or were formed by damming a small stream, to be used as watering holes or for crop irrigation in dry weather. Though the pond does not appear on the OS 1:50,000 map is does appear on larger scale maps.
