NY4887 : Newcastleton [or Copshaw Holm]Newcastleton (originally Copshaw Holm) was a planned estate village established by the 3rd Duke of Buccleugh in 1793. The Duke had been on the 'Grand Tour' with the economist Adam Smith, and had ambitions to divert the energy of those being displaced during 'The clearances' into domestic commerce such as weaving.
