Celtic cross, Downpatrick
The Celtic cross is often taken as a symbol of Christianity although its origins are thought to be in the fourth century before the Celts converted to Christianity. This one, outside Down Cathedral J4844 : Down Cathedral is said to be from the ninth century. The image of the crucifixion is just about visible. This is not its original location. It had been broken up. The parts were later re-assembled and placed here in 1897. I am not aware of any connection with Patrick J4844 : St Patrick's grave?.
