SU9503 : Hollinsworth Swing Bridge

taken 15 years ago, near to Barnham, West Sussex, England

Hollinsworth Swing Bridge
Hollinsworth Swing Bridge
Remains of Hollinsworth Swing Bridge on the disused Portsmouth and Arundel Canal. Named after James Hollinsworth, a civil engineer. The Portsmouth and Arundel canal was part of a bigger proposal for the construction of a secure inland route from London to Portsmouth. The section between Ford and Hunston opened in 1823 but was never a commercial success and ceased to be used in 1847.
