View towards Carreg-y-saeth. We rented this house for two weeks in the autumn of 1967. When we stopped to buy logs on the road between Llyn Cwm Bychan and Llanbedr, the old lady that attended to us asked where we were staying. When we told her, she exclaimed "Cwm Mawr! Why I was born there! God, what a terrible place!" Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay immensely. One day we had torrential rain and several of the local hill farmers who were herding sheep took shelter in the out-house. We invited them in and made them tea. They looked gloomy and spoke only in Welsh. However, the next morning, the daughter of John Roberts from Cwm Bychan farm at the foot of the Roman Steps stopped by with a tray of eggs for us.
