Sawley Abbey, Lancashire
Sawley Abbey, Lancashire
England is dotted with the remains of many abbeys that were the victims of Henry VIII's dissolution - displacing monks, and removing their wealth in an attempt to bolster his own coffers and the coffers of his loyal follower. A despicable moment in history. Luckily, the remains of these great edifices continue to be protected in their current settings.
