Showman's Locomotives were made from the 1880's to the 1930's. At the end of the 19th century fairgrounds were evolving with large rides and fairground organs which required large sources of power to run them.

Steam engines used for farming and later more powerful road locomotives were adapted to power the amusements.

The Preston Steam Rally runs once weekend during the summer LinkExternal link
