This five storey tower above the north side of the River Blackwater dates from Tudor times, and dominates the C19 house beneath it. It was in the possession of the Roches until its forfeiture in the Confederate Wars, after which it passed to Richard Aldworth. Erected for the purpose of guarding the ford over the river, it was mentioned in the 16c as being a stronghold of some importance. It was restored in 1862.
