Barge 'UR 101' at Belfast
'UR 101' is a one of the vessels currently involved in the construction of an offshore windfarm at Robin Rigg in the Solway Firth but is seen here calling at Harland and Wolff in Belfast. The job of the barge is to install the power cables between each of the offshore turbines - 64 in total - and then to install one 'export cable' running back to the Cumbrian coast for connection to the national grid. The barge is fully equipped to lay and bury the so-called array cables under the seabed in water depths of up to 30 metres and can accommodate 48 workers onboard. This picture is a detail of the cable-laying array at the stern of the barge.
See LinkExternal link for some related images of vessels involved in this project which have also visited Belfast.
