ST8609 : Stourpaine and Durweston Halt

taken 15 years ago, near to Stourpaine, Dorset, England

Stourpaine and Durweston Halt
Stourpaine and Durweston Halt
All that is left of a country halt on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway.
The little station was opened in 1928 but closed in 1956. The railway, connecting Bath and Bournemouth, was closed in 1966. The line here runs atop an embankment to avoid the Stour floods in winter, a bridge (see right) carries a road under the railway.
