The statue stands on the Mall, between Reginald's Tower and the Tower Hotel. Thomas Meagher was born in No.19, The Mall, the son of a wealthy merchant. He was transported to Tasmania for treason and escaped from there to the USA. He fought for the Union in the Civil War. Link
