Sentinel Steam Bus ELIZABETH at Whitby
Sentinel Waggon Works Ltd was a British company based in Shrewsbury that manufactured steam-powered road vehicles and railway locomotives. They were powered by a high pressure vertical boiler and, unusually for steam locomotives, had a gearbox.
'Sentinels' were manufactured until the 1950s and many survived in use for a long while thereafter - I well remember seeing them around the Liverpool docks and a number of examples have been preserved [
