This river is the boundary between two historic estates which were established in the 17th century along what is a significant waterway system of lakes and islands between Cootehill and Rockcorry. On this (north) side of the river is the Dartrey estate which in recent times has been given over entirely to forestry H6117 : Inner Lough island and the history of the Dartrey estate, and on the far (south) side is Bellamont Forest, still a privately owned estate of some 1000 acres. The Dromore waters, which were once navigable from Ballybay down to Cootehill, are favoured by fishermen, while walkers enjoy wide paths and lake views through beautiful tree-covered drumlins.
