Almost six million people emigrated from Ireland between 1848 and 1950, many during the famine years of 1844 through 1848. Two and a half million of them left from Cobh, where they boarded ships bound for other lands, such as Amerikay, Canada, Australia, etc. Emigration started to drop off by 1930s.
