Slipway, Bangor harbour
Slipway at Bangor harbour during the extremely cold weather in early 2010. This was taken during the coldest of the weather in Bangor. My thermometer dropped to -6C which, whilst not comparable to much lower temperatures in other parts of the country, was extremely rare for a coastal area that rarely sees anything below 0C. Even more unusually the sea had begun to freeze in the harbour. Here sea ice has formed in the water at the slipway which also extended partially into the harbour itself. The ice lasted into the next day until a rise in temperature coupled with rougher seas saw it disappear completely. See also J5082 : Bangor Lifeboat station and slipway for the same area in daylight and warmer conditions.
