TF8200 : St Margaret's Chapel
taken 18 years ago, near to Hilborough, Norfolk, England
St Margaret's Chapel
Built in 1207 as a chapel for pilgrims to rest on their way from Ely to the Holy House at Walsingham it was dissolved under Edward VI in 1550. Only the west wall of the chapel now rises much above foundation level. In the parish church are two tiny brass memorials to two nuns who served here. The area around the chapel is managed as set-aside under the country stewardship scheme, including a recreated wetland area with linear lake.
