Teignmouth Lighthouse
Teignmouth Lighthouse: At only 6 metres tall, it’s not exactly the tallest lighthouse in the world. Situated on quay at Den Point. At the point where the river Teign meets the open sea, there are dangerous currents and shifting sands causing many problems even for experienced pilots. In the mid 1800s they set about building a lighthouse at the harbour entrance on the Teignmouth side. This was completed in 1845. The little lighthouse still performs its task of guiding incoming vessels to safe passage through the channel to the safety of the harbour beyond. It has a fixed red light, visible for some 3 nautical miles.
