ST7602 : Melcombe Bingham: long-fingered signpost

taken 14 years ago, near to Melcombe Bingham, Dorset, England

Melcombe Bingham: long-fingered signpost
Melcombe Bingham: long-fingered signpost
This signpost must have some of the longest fingers ever! Their length is thanks to "Higher" having once been written on the nearer right-hand finger and "Bingham" having once been on the farther right-hand one. It is a complicated parish – called Melcombe Horsey though no recognisable village of that name exists today; it is generally known as Melcombe Bingham, while the area to the east, which includes the manor house and parish church, is called Bingham's Melcombe.

Note the spelling mistake with the E having been omitted from the word Private.

For a close-up of the finial, see ST7602 : Melcombe Bingham: finger-post detail.
